Operational glue

The integration code between systems, which carries a team's real operating logic while nobody treats it as real work.

You wire the tracker to the deploy system and the deploy system to the alerting, and you move on. Those seams are where most of a team's actual operating logic ends up living, and it is almost always untyped, undocumented and owned by whoever touched it last.

The glue encodes assumptions, such as a ticket in one state meaning a thing is safe to ship, and the assumptions drift silently until something breaks in a way nobody can explain.
